Time Off

Vacation

It’s important to rest and recharge. Employees are expected to take their vacation time each year according to the following schedule:

2 weeks (4%)
Prorated based on date of hire
3 weeks (6%)

How It Works

  • The vacation year runs from January to December.
  • For salaried employees, vacation pay will be paid out when the employee takes vacation time (so the employee will continue to receive their regular pay cheque when on vacation).
  • Vacation time does not roll over from year to year, unless required by applicable employment standards legistlation. If you have unused vacation time as of October, Chipotle reserves the right to schedule your vacation to ensure that you take the minimum required by applicable employment standards legislation. Additional unused vacation time will be forfeited.
  • Chipotle will not grant requests for carryover of vacation time from one year to the next and will not pay out accumulated vacation pay in lieu of vacation unless otherwise required by applicable employment standards legislation. All vacation must be taken within the timelines described in this policy.
  • If a statutory holiday occurs during your approved vacation, you will be provided an additional vacation day.
  • Any unpaid accrued vacation pay will be paid out to you at the time of termination in accordance with applicable employment standards legislation.

Requesting Vacation Time

Vacation can be requested for one or more days, subject to approval and operational needs. Submit your request in Workday and notify your manager as soon as possible.

Sick Time

Chipotle provides you with 5 days (40 hours) of paid sick time per calendar year to rest and recover from illness or injury.

How It Works

  • Sick time may be taken at anytime, and you’ll be paid 100% of your wages for each hour of sick time taken. Any time taken that exceeds your annual allotment will be unpaid.
  • Sick time does not carry over from year to year and is not paid out upon termination of employment.
  • Sick time is counted as “sick leave” or similar protected leave under the terms of applicable provincial employment standards legislation.

Requesting Sick Time

Notify your manager as soon as possible and submit a request in Workday under “Time Off.” You may be requested to provide proof of entitlement, such as verification of personal illness by a medical physician.

Statutory Leaves of Absence (LOA)

Employees may be entitled to statutory LOA(s) pursuant to applicable employment standards legislation.

LOA & Vacation

  • Employees on an approved leave of absence (such as pregnancy leave, parental leave, or short-term disability leave) continue to accrue vacation time while on leave. If employees are unable to take vacation before the end of the vacation year due to such an approved leave, they will be permitted to carry over that vacation time to the following year.
  • Employees are encouraged to take vacation time before a leave begins, if possible. Any vacation time carried over due to a leave will be scheduled within six months after the employee's return to work.

Sabbatical Leave

You earn one eight-week sabbatical for every 10 years of uninterrupted employment with Chipotle. If you are promoted to an AP-R or Staff position, you must complete three years of uninterrupted employment as an AP-R or Staff employee before you’re eligible.

How It Works

  • You are eligible to get your regular pay and benefits during your sabbatical.
  • The full eight weeks must be taken at one time.
  • If you resign from your employment with Chipotle within six months following your return from a sabbatical, you have to pay back all eight weeks of the pay you received. Before going on a sabbatical, you are required to enter into an agreement with Chipotle confirming your obligation to pay back the funds you receive while on sabbatical if you resign in these circumstances.
  • An additional eight-week sabbatical can be requested after each additional 10 years of uninterrupted employment. However, additional sabbatical(s) cannot be taken within four years of any previously taken sabbatical. For example, if you take the sabbatical you earned for 10 years of uninterrupted employment with Chipotle in May and June of your 17th year of employment, you would not be eligible to take the sabbatical you earned after 20 years of uninterrupted employment until July of your 21st year of employment.
  • You must achieve a rating of Meet's Expecations or higher on your most recent performance review before the sabbatical period.

Note: This eight-week sabbatical is not paid out upon the termination of your employment with Chipotle for any reason or in the event that you switch to a Crew, KL, or SL position before taking the sabbatical. In these circumstances, any earned but untaken sabbatical is forfeited without a payout of any kind.
